EU: Winter barley fields look sound
European winter barley looks sound, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.
By early March, Spanish and French farmers had virtually completed spring barley seeding except for the northern parts of their countries.
According to experts, winter kill, if any, would be restricted to isolated parts of East and North Europe. Question is, whether yield potentials have been reduced by a colder than normal winter.
The forecast total barley surplus in the EU can be increased by a larger selection of French winter barley, depending mainly on the export markets of feed vs. malting barley, the Gauger analysts said.
